There is naturally no dressing after the operation. There is no need to remove the stitches as all stitches are self-melting. The stitches dissolve and fall off within two to three weeks.
Since the surgery is performed in the mouth and on an organ with high blood supply, there is always a risk of bleeding and infection, but practically never. We have never seen bleeding or infection in any of the patients we have operated on so far.
The patient is fed with watery food without grains for 3-4 days after surgery. He/she uses mouth disinfectant (mouthwash). He/she takes antibiotics. On the fourth and fifth day, he/she slowly starts to eat normally. He uses one box of antibiotics until it runs out. We ask him to use mouthwash for 1 week. In the first week after this surgery, we ask the patient to lie down (sitting slightly) with the head elevated. Keeping the head elevated prevents swelling of the tongue.
Children heal faster. This is because healing in children is faster than in adults and the thickness of the tongue is thinner than in adults. Since the tongue is thinner in pediatric patients compared to adults, the number of stitches is also less. Therefore, there is less healing tissue on the tongue. Swelling is less and it heals more quickly. Since more stitches are stitched in adult patients, swelling is more and healing takes longer. Sometimes we even see that pediatric patients start speaking normally 2 days after surgery.
It takes maximum 1 week for the patient to return to normal life. No late complications develop. There is no possibility of late complications in this surgery.
